“Twelfth Night and Mardi Gras Krewes in Nineteenth-Century New Orleans and their Appropriations of Shakespeare, Spenser, and Milton"

Please come to the English Dept. Symposium this Wed. at 7PM in Griffin 315 where Dr. Jennifer Vaught will be giving a paper entitled “Twelfth Night and Mardi Gras Krewes in Nineteenth-Century New Orleans and their Appropriations of Shakespeare, Spenser, and Milton.” This paper is from her book, Carnival and Literature in Early Modern England, and is about how 19th c. Mardi Krewes in New Orleans read and responded to Renaissance canonical texts. If anyone is interested in Renaissance Literature studies for ideas, criticism, or just plain enjoyment, Jennifer thought you might enjoy the reading. She'll show a number of pictures and photographs of 19th c. Mardi Gras krewes as well. Hope you can come!

Best wishes,

(From Jennifer Vaught)
